Surgery in the time of COVID...

Now after 6 months of the pandemic, what has happened to all those who need surgery, but don't have COVID?

Well, not a lot. Treatment capacity has improved, but is not where it should be.
People who have benign conditions are waiting patiently.
People who have cancer are either being treated (e.g. Breast Ca) or waiting patiently.

People with vascular disease... well there's been a lot of patiently waiting.
Locally we have managed to get up to 66% of our normal. This allows us to get the urgent cases done, but those who can wait, have had to wait.

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view this is happening all over the country.

We have great transparency with excellent updates from the trust available to all staff - on a dedicated website, and at the pandemic peak, emailed out daily.

Now, over the past 2 months we've been gradually scaling up to normal practice, and we are getting there, or we were until the "second' wave appeared...

Let's see how it goes...
